Our Site

The site sits on the western side of Lamb’s Passage, a one-way street that provides a connection from Chiswell Street to Bunhill Row.

The site is currently occupied by a public car park and is bounded to the north by a separate car park for residents of Shire House.

Site History
In 1742, Samuel Whitbread formed the Whitbread Brewery and in 1750 purchased the King’s Head brewery site in Chiswell Street. By 1761 the area had been extensively developed and Lamb’s Passage itself had come into existence.

Following the early years of the Industrial Revolution, maps document the northward expansion of London and the Whitbread Brewery and in the early 20th century the brewery was connected to terraced housing on the eastern boundary of the site.

By the end of the Second World War in 1945, large areas of surrounding buildings had been destroyed, but the Whitbread Brewery remained largely intact until 1980 when large areas were demolished to make way for Shire House and the car park today.

Planning History
In recent years there have been a number of proposals for the site including a mixed hotel, office and residential scheme which was approved in 2017 but ultimately it proved unviable to bring forward. Since then, the Council has allocated land including both car parks for office development. LPREL welcome this policy and have therefore decided to deliver a high-quality office building on the land it owns.
